BICSI ATF
The purpose of the BICSI Authorized Training Facility is to provide installers with increased access to training in the proper methods of installing data, voice and video cabling within the confines of a commercial building structure. This knowledge is communicated through BICSI’s multi-level ITS Cabling Installation Program, which includes a combination of classroom lectures and hands-on learning labs.
This program is a competency-based model offering core skills and on-the-job training, as well as credentialing examinations for ITS Installer 1; ITS Installer 2, Copper; ITS Installer 2, Optical Fiber; and ITS Technician designation participants. The Cabling Installation Training Program leads to the recognition of highly trained installers and technicians.
Installer 1
BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) candidates are tested on their ability to understand and apply a comprehensive collection of installation-specific information.
After achieving your Installer 1 designation, you will demonstrate your ability to:
- Successfully terminate various types of copper connectors.
- Properly explain the importance of safety and professionalism toward optimal job performance.
- Discuss pathways, spaces, bonding and grounding and firestopping.
- Make decisions based on applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
- Choose the correct tool or methodology for specific tasks
Installer 2, Copper
BICSI Installer 2, Copper (INSTC) candidates are tested on their ability to understand and apply a comprehensive collection of installation-specific information. Achieving your INSTC designation will demonstrate your ability to:
- Successfully interpret drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Properly test and troubleshoot copper installations.
- Discuss media selection and implications for implementation on the network.
- Make recommendations based on applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
- Interpret the job plan and scope of work, as well as perform retrofits and upgrades for existing infrastructure.
Installer 2, Fiber
BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber (INSTF) candidates are tested on their ability to understand and apply a comprehensive collection of installation-specific information. Achieving your INSTF designation will demonstrate your ability to:
- Successfully interpret drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Properly test and troubleshoot optical fiber installations.
- Discuss media selection and implications for implementation on the network.
- Make recommendations based on applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
- Interpret the job plan and scope of work as well as perform retrofits and upgrades for existing infrastructure.
Technician
BICSI Technician (TECH) candidates are tested on their ability to understand and apply a comprehensive collection of installation-specific information. Achieving your Technician designation will demonstrate your ability to:
- Successfully lead an installation group or team using project management skills.
- Perform advanced testing and troubleshooting for both copper and optical fiber installations.
- Discuss and evaluate numerous specific applications of information and communications technology (ICT) cabling installation.
- Make recommendations based on applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
- Implement the job plan and scope of work as well as perform retrofits and upgrades for existing infrastructure.
